Our Projects

The children in Anne Crosby Gaudet’s piano studio have the opportunity to participate in a variety of creative projects throughout the year. Here are some of our recent activites:

Young Composers Collection

In November and December we devote a block of time to composing and notating our original compositions. We have a new theme each year and the pieces are compiled into a book, sometimes with an accompanying CD. I have Young Composers Collections dating back to 1993! Here are covers from the past four years, we just keep getting better and better.

Studio Recording

Each spring students choose a favourite solo to record on the Annual Studio CD or DVD. It is wonderful to capture each student’s progress from year to year. Recently, we have been videotaping our performances to create DVDs. I have them professionally reproduced for a lasting momento. Many students also choose to have their videos posted on YouTube.

Halifax Kiwanis Music Festival

Some of my students choose to compete in the Halifax Kiwanis Music Festival, which takes place in April. Those who enjoy performing and shine with the challenge of competition are invited to prepare and participate.

Examinations

I am committed to providing my students with opportunities to be examined each year. The long term goal is challenging and satisfying for most students. Over the years I have used different examination systems including RCM, CNCM and Acadia External Examinations. I am currently developing an independent curriculum for student evaluation. Spring 2010 was out first year and it was a huge success.

Advanced students are offered the opportunity to take RCM Examinations at the Grade 7 level and highre if they wish.

The Music Room

Studio Recitals

Performing in recitals is a valuable experience as students develop confidence and poise while having their moment to shine for friends and family. Our recitals are held at the Music Room recital hall in Halifax, where students enjoy the opportunity to perform on a professional Steinway concert grand piano.

RCM Theory Examinations

As students advance in their lessons, I recommend including formal theory instruction and taking the RCM Theory Rudiments Exam in May. To cover the material, I require students to add an additional 15 minutes to their regular 45 minute lesson time for the entire year. I will let you know when it's time for me to recommend that your child begins theory instruction. The levels are as follows:

Mini Recitals for Friends & Family

Mini Recital Week is the last big event of the year. Each student prepares a group of pieces, creates programs and invites special family and friends to attend. This June Anne opened her studio doors to over 100 enthusiastic fans. The mini-recital replaces the last scheduled piano lesson of the year.
